Dirt Bike Number Plate Application

It does not get any easier than this when it comes to vinyl applications.  More times than not, dirt track number plates are relatively smooth and do not have the multiple curves as some road race bodywork for other motorcycles.  Just take a quick scroll with the mouse and see how easy it is to do it yourself and save a ton of money over paint applications.  This entire application was 1.5 hours start to finish.

Old plates.  Tons of good times on the dirt track!!  But now it is time for a change.

Remove old plates and clean.  You may need a degreaser or glue remover for vinyl residue.

Take old pinstriping or automotive outline / tape-off tape and create the outline for your new plates.

Take your vinyl from DCDECALS.net and place it over the top of plate and smooth out.  For this project, we started with the top edge and worked down. Having a friend around never hurts.  While they hold the access vinyl, you can smooth it out from side to side and around any curves.

Using the outline tape as a guide, take an Exacto knife or sharp razor and trim the vinyl along the inner edge of the tape. You should see a raised lip at the vinyl's edge where it meets the outline tape.  Following this lip will prevent you from going through any paint or plastic.  Take your time - patience is your friend. Remove access vinyl.

Now, do the same thing for the front plate - easier on the bike.

Apply vinyl... remove access and outline tape.  Apply numbers.

DCDECALS.net recommends you apply your numbers while the plates are on the bike.  Having the plastics secured in place provides you with a more stable surface.  It also provides a better visual aide to see where you want your numbers in relation to angles of the bike or the plate itself depending on the font you choose.

That's it!  Sure you can paint everything on there -

but I am sure it will take at least a week to do it and cost you more than $25 - $30.00.
